Why pumpkin?

With this typical autumn and winter vegetable, you can make a purée with a light orange colour, very attractive to babies.    Do not forget that children, even more that adults, eat firstly with their eyes and are reassured about what they have in their plates by the colour.

Pumpkin is ideal for diversification due to its low sodium content:babies’ kidney system is immature and cannot deal with food with a high sodium (salt) content.  This is why you should never add salt to babies’ dishes, which may appear insipid to parents’ taste buds.   Also you should not forget that babies do not have the same taste references as adults:they only know milk and discover, with diversification, flavours that are completely new to them.

Pumpkin is a source of magnesium, a mineral that contributes to muscular relaxation, notably of the intestinal tube that is formed of several layers of muscles. In the case of colic or difficult transit, magnesium can have a beneficial effect.
